Liposuction helps to create smooth natural contours by removing unwanted and stubborn fatty deposits from specific areas of the body. It can be utilised in many regions including but not limited to the hips, thighs, buttocks, abdomen, back, upper arms, breasts, neck and face to create more shape and definition. Different liposuction techniques may be utilised to provide the best results for fat removal and body contouring. During your personalised consultation Dr Watts will assess your unique anatomy and discuss your goals and desires to help you determine whether liposuction is right for you.
• Remove stubborn and unwanted fat from specified areas
• Re-shape and smooth existing contours
Liposuction can be used as a stand-alone procedure or in conjunction with other surgical procedures such as breast lift, breast reduction, tummy tuck – abdominoplasty and fat grafting to further create and enhance smooth natural curves. It is important to note that liposuction is not a first choice as a weight loss procedure. Rather it is designed to treat areas that have not responded to traditional methods of weight loss and exercise. Results remain as long as you keep up your healthy habits and maintain a stable weight after your procedure. Although liposuction permanently removes fat cells from the treated areas subsequent weight gain can still result in enlargement of the remaining fat cells. For these reasons individuals are advised to be at their ideal weight before considering this treatment to maximize the longevity of the aesthetic changes. Results may also depend on the individual’s skin tone and elasticity with firmer more elastic skin regaining the normal skin contour more rapidly. Loose drooping skin that may be the result of pregnancy or weight fluctuations will not respond to liposuction and would have to be surgically removed. Cellulite or textural skin changes will not be improved by liposuction nor will it remove stretch marks.
Dr Watts performs his liposuction treatments on an outpatient basis under general anaesthesia or twilight sedation. The length of the procedure will depend on many factors including the number of treatment areas and combination with other cosmetic procedures. On average it will take 1-2 hours to complete. A compression garment will be applied after the procedure to reduce swelling and assisting in sculpting and contouring. After surgery, patients are kept for observation for a few hours before they are allowed to return home with a friend or family member.
Written procedure specific information sheets will be given to you in order for you to prepare for your surgery and the recovery period. You may experience mild to moderate discomfort after the procedure and so a postoperative analgesia regime will be tailored to meet your specific needs. It is not uncommon to experience some swelling and possible bruising after the procedure with most swelling settling within 2 weeks. Results become most apparent after 6-8 weeks however ongoing improvements in contour and shape will continue for 6-12 months.
Dr Watts and his team are dedicated to providing ongoing care, support and guidance throughout your entire journey. They will be readily available to answer any further questions you may have to ensure a safe and smooth recovery.
