Your First Consultation

What to Expect at Your First Consultation

Your first consultation is a personalised and informative experience, designed to address your unique concerns and goals. This initial consultation will be with our Nurse and Patient Care Coordinator, who will take the time to understand your medical history, discuss your needs, and provide you with detailed information. Dr Guy Watts and his dedicated team will be closely involved, offering tailored advice and compassionate care throughout your journey. We ensure that you feel confident, informed, and supported as we guide you through your treatment options.

Appointment Preparation Sequence

  1. Make an Enquiry
The first step is to make an enquiry with us, either through our website or by phone. This allows us to understand your needs and begin the process.
  2. Review Information & Price Guide
Once confirmed that Dr Watts performs the surgery you’re interested in, we will provide you with detailed information about the procedure, including a price guide to help you plan.
  3. Submit Photos for Evaluation
To proceed, we will ask you to send us photos of the area you’re considering for surgery. These images will be reviewed by our surgical nurses to determine whether you meet the criteria for the procedure.
  4. Confirmation
Once the evaluation is complete, we will contact you to confirm that you’re eligible for surgery and arrange your initial consultation. This consultation will be with our Nurse and Patient Care Coordinator, who will guide you through the next steps and provide you with the information you need for a successful journey.
  5. Booking Forms
Once your initial consultation is booked, you will receive a confirmation email containing a link to our new patient forms and a medical history questionnaire. We kindly ask that you complete these within a week of receiving them. The email will also include a link to the Cosmetic Readiness Questionnaire (CRQ), an evaluation tool used by cosmetic professionals to assess your mindset and readiness for the procedure. The CRQ helps identify any potential psychological concerns, such as body dysmorphic disorder, ensuring you are mentally prepared for treatment.

Please note that a GP referral is required to schedule your initial consultation, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of your medical history for safer and more effective treatment planning.

Preparing for Your Initial Nurse/patient Coordinator Appointment:

  • GP Referral: According to the new Australian healthcare regulations, as mandated by AHPRA, a valid referral from your GP or another qualified medical practitioner is mandatory before seeing Dr Guy Watts.
  • Medical History: To help us provide the best care, please bring any relevant test results and details of past surgeries. This will assist Dr Guy Watts and his team in understanding your medical history and tailoring the consultation to your needs.
  • Personal Notes: In addition to your medical information, it’s helpful to bring a list of your goals, questions, and any concerns you may have. This ensures we address everything important to you during your consultation and helps guide the discussion in the right direction for you to make well-informed decisions.

At the end of this consultation, you will be given a folder to take home, which summarises the key aspects of the discussion, including a breakdown of the surgical costs. Our Patient Care Coordinator will then send you an email offering available dates for a consultation with Dr Watts. The email will also include links to videos with further information about the proposed surgery, which we kindly ask you to watch before your consultation with Dr Watts.

Meeting Dr Guy Watts

Your consultation with Dr Guy Watts is designed to be a collaborative experience. He will listen carefully to your goals and provide advice tailored to your unique circumstances. If applicable, Dr Watts will perform a thorough examination. Please note that depending on the procedure you are consulting him about, you may be required to remove your clothing down to your underwear for the examination. When applicable, visual aids such as diagrams or digital simulations may be used to illustrate potential outcomes, helping you better understand the possible results of the procedure.

We also encourage you to bring a relative or friend to this consultation, as their presence can help you feel more comfortable and provide additional support throughout the process. Additionally, we recommend you write down any concerns you have about the procedure, recovery process, or expected outcomes – no question is too small, and we are here to help address all your inquiries. Below is a breakdown of what will happen during your consultation with Dr Watts:

  • Comprehensive Medical History Review: Dr Watts will review your overall health and any relevant medical history to ensure that proposed treatments are safe and suitable for you. Be prepared to discuss past surgeries, medications, and lifestyle factors such as smoking or exercise habits that could affect your results or recovery.
  • Physical Examination: A thorough assessment of the area you wish to address will be performed in a respectful and private setting. This examination helps Dr Watts determine what procedures might work best for you.
  • Treatment Plan Discussion: Based on your goals and the physical examination, Dr Watts will recommend appropriate treatment options. He will explain the procedures in detail, including how they work, expected outcomes, and possible risks and complications.
  • Question and Answer Session: This is your time to ask questions. Whether you are curious about the surgical process, recovery times, or post-operative care, Dr Watts will provide clear, honest answers.

The goal of the consultation is to ensure you feel informed, empowered, and confident in your decision-making process. Mandatory Two Consultations & Cooling-off Period

After your second consultation, a mandatory 7-day cooling-off period will be in place before surgery can be scheduled. This gives you time to reflect on the proposed surgery, ensuring you make a well-informed decision without any pressure. In line with AHPRA regulations, two consultations as outlined above, are required before any surgical procedure can be booked. These consultations are designed to ensure you fully understand the recommended treatment plan and have sufficient time to consider your options.

These measures prioritise your safety, understanding, and satisfaction throughout the treatment process.

Post-Consultation Steps

Once your consultations are complete and you decide to move forward with surgery, the next steps will be clearly outlined. Our dedicated team will guide you through every phase, ensuring you feel supported and well-prepared. Here is what happens next:

  1. Scheduling Your Procedure: We will coordinate with you to schedule your procedure at a time that works best for you. You’ll also receive a detailed timeline of important pre- and post-operative dates as well as final payment dates and ordering any required garments.
  2. Pre-Operative Instructions: You’ll be provided with thorough pre-operative guidelines to ensure a smooth preparation process, including information on dietary restrictions, medication adjustments, and self-care recommendations.
  3. Surgery Day Preparation: On the day of your surgery, our team will provide a calm and professional environment. You’ll be supported from admission through to recovery.
  4. Post-Operative Care: Following your procedure, you will receive personalised recovery instructions based on your specific surgery. Dr Watts and his team will closely monitor your healing at your post-operative appointments to ensure the optimal results.
