WHAT IS THIGH LIFT SURGERY?

Thigh Lift surgery, also known as Thighplasty, is a surgical procedure aimed at altering the shape of the thighs by reducing excess skin and, in some cases, fat, resulting in proportioned contours of the thighs and lower body. This procedure is typically sought by individuals who have loose, excess skin as a result of weight loss, ageing, or other factors. A Thigh Lift can significantly alter the appearance of the thighs.

HOW IS THE SURGERY PERFORMED?

The Thigh Lift procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and involves the following steps:

Incision: The type and length of the incision depends on the area of the thigh being treated and the amount of excess skin. Incisions may be made in the groin area, extending downward and wrapping around the back of the thigh for more extensive Thigh Lifts.
Removing Excess Skin and Fat: Depending on the amount of excess skin and fat, Dr. Owen may use Liposuction to remove fat before excising the excess skin. The underlying tissues are then reshaped and tightened.
Closing the Incisions: The incisions are closed with sutures, which may be absorbable or may need to be removed after a few weeks.
Results: Tighter contours of the thighs are apparent almost immediately, although initial swelling and bruising are to be expected.

RECOVERY AFTER THIGH LIFT SURGERY

The recovery process following a Thigh Lift is a crucial period where patients need to take special care to optimise healing and results, recovery generally includes the following:

Post-Surgery Care: After the surgery, dressings or bandages will be applied to the incisions, and you may be required to wear a compression garment to reduce swelling and support the thighs as they heal.
Managing Discomfort: Some bruising, swelling, and discomfort are to be expected after surgery. Pain can typically be managed with medications prescribed by Dr. Owen.
- Ice packs my also offer some relief and help reduce swelling.
Activity Restrictions: Patients are generally advised to avoid strenuous activities, particularly those involving the lower body, for several weeks. Dr. Owen will provide specific guidelines regarding when you can resume activities and return to work.
Follow-Up Visits: Regular follow-up appointments will be scheduled to monitor the progress of your healing. During these visits, Dr. Owen will check the status of your incisions and advise on further care.
Recovery Time: Most patients can return to work and light daily activities within a few weeks, but complete recovery and the final results of the surgery may take several months.
Scarring: Scars are an expected part of Thigh Lift surgery. They will gradually heal and fade over time, but they will never disappear completely. Dr. Owen will provide advice on scar care.

Do you need a Medical Referral to see Dr Guy Watts?

Yes, a GP referral is required for all patients seeking surgery with Dr Watts. We ask all patients, medical and cosmetic, to obtain a GP referral prior to their consultation that includes a detailed medical history, any medications they may be on, and their current BMI. Patients will not be able to attend a consultation without a referral and we ask that you send your referral to our reception team prior to your consultation. Please note that your Medicare Rebates for medical consults will NOT be claimable without a valid recent Medical Referral.

Please arrive slightly early for your in-person consultation, this will allow for any paperwork or information we may need to collect from you prior to your consultation with Dr Guy Watts.
