Dr. Watts specialises in cosmetic plastic surgery and his practice is dedicated to performing cosmetic procedures including functional nose surgery (rhinoplasty, septoplasty and airway surgery), breast surgery (breast augmentation, breast implants, breast reduction and breast lift), facelifts, neck lifts, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), brow lifts, body reshaping, and treatments for facial lines and loss of volume.
Dr. Guy Watts has worked all over the world including Manhattan, Toronto and Rio De Janeiro with some of the most well-known plastic surgeons in the world. His training and international experience has allowed him to adopt frequently requested plastic surgery procedures and bring them back to Perth for his patients. He is constantly growing his plastic surgery knowledge and skills through further education and training. Since returning from New York, he has opened his own plastic surgery practice in West Perth, where he offers clients current treatment, practices and technology in cosmetic plastic surgery.
With plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery procedures becoming more frequently requested, patients need to have a heightened awareness of who they choose to perform their procedures. Unfortunately, there are few laws in place to protect patients against unqualified surgeons practicing in Australia. It is therefore important to take steps to protect yourself at all costs. There is only one qualification for Plastic Surgery in Australia and that is through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. A qualified Plastic Surgeon will carry the title Specialist Plastic Surgeon and be listed through the Australian Society for Plastic Surgeons. The title “Surgeon” is now protected in Australia, and you must have the FRACS qualification to use the term “Surgeon”.
Plastic surgery can be termed either as reconstructive or cosmetic. Reconstructive plastic surgery is aimed at treating acquired or congenital medical conditions. The aim of the treatment is to increase function or form to its previous or preferred state. On the other hand, cosmetic plastic surgery is aimed at taking certain features and altering them to suit the patient’s desired outcome.
There is an important difference between reconstructive and cosmetic plastic surgery in regards to Medicare. Reconstructive plastic surgery maybe partly covered by Medicare and private health insurance when eligible procedures are coded with an item number. Dr. Watts will assess your eligibility for a reconstructive plastic surgery procedure and provide you with the appropriate Medicare Item Numbers to take to your private health insurer. Cosmetic surgical procedures are not covered by Medicare or your private health insurance company.
Depending on your Private Insurance coverage for Plastic Surgery Procedures the following operations may be partially covered;
