Body Lift

BODY LIFT

A circumferential body lift is designed for those patients who have achieved a significant amount of weight loss and now want their outward appearance to reflect how they feel on the inside!

Also called a lower body lift, this surgical procedure circumferentially lifts and reshapes the mid-section of the body by the removal of excess loose skin and troublesome fat deposits. A body lift not only removes excess tissue it repairs over stretched and lax muscles in the abdominal region resulting in a trim and beautifully sculpted torso. Liposuction may also be combined if deemed necessary.

Body lift surgery is suitable for those patients who have achieved their weight loss goals and have remained at their ideal weight for a period of at least 6 months. It is not a surgical weight loss solution for individuals who are overweight. Patients who are still on their weight loss journey should postpone all body contouring procedures until they have reached a stable weight to ensure optimal results.

BODY LIFT PROCEDURE AND RECOVERY PERIOD

A body lift is a major surgical procedure and therefore Dr Watts performs it as an isolated procedure on an inpatient basis. The length of the procedure can vary greatly between patients but usually takes between 4-7 hours to complete.

Incision placement will vary depending on the needs of the patient. It most commonly involves a horizontal incision across the bikini line and extending around the hip and upper aspect of the gluteal region. Every measure is taken to place the incisions and resultant scars as inconspicuously as possible. Dr Watts and his team will guide you through their post-operative protocol for scar management to assist healing and minimize scarring.

A compression garment will be applied after the procedure to help reduce swelling and assist in shaping and contouring. You will remain in hospital for 2-3 days to ensure close observation in the initial recovery phase before being allowed to return home with a friend or family member.

Written procedure specific information sheets will be given to you in order for you to prepare for your surgery and the recovery period. You may experience moderate discomfort after the procedure and so a postoperative analgesia regime will be tailored to meet your specific needs. In general, you can expect the possible bruising, swelling and tightness of the midsection to have settled within 2-3 weeks. Residual swelling will be present for a number of weeks. There will be significant restrictions on your activity initially to ensure the surgical incisions are not subject to excessive force, movement or abrasion during this time of healing. A body lift is a major surgical procedure and requires significant recovery time; in general normal activities may be resumed after 4-6 weeks and exercise after 6-8 weeks.
